Cost-Effective Solutions for Mercury Reduction in Coal-Burning Deliver Environmental and Business Value

MERCONTROL^® 7895 technology is Nalco’s patented chemistry for controlling mercury in coal combustion processes where halogen is added to the coal pre-furnace, in-furnace, and/or into the flue gas. MERCONTROL technology oxidizes elementary mercury providing high mercury capture and allows optimization of activated carbon usage either reducing the amount significantly or eliminating the need entirely.

MERCONTROL^® 8034 technology is Nalco’s patented mercury sorbent chemistry for controlling the reemission and removal of mercury from coal combustion processes. This is used when a proprietary additive is placed into the wet flue-gas desulfurization system. MERCONTROL 8034 technology both prevents oxidized mercury from converting back into elementary mercury and also binds the mercury with the waste sludge thereby preventing it from being a trace element in the saleable gypsum product.

Non Carbon-Based Mercury Sorbents

Nalco Mobotec is currently developing several non carbon-based mercury removal sorbent products for maintaining fly ash quality. This will allow utility customers to continue generating sales of fly ash. These sorbents include:
